Title: Tamaki Shrine: The “Sky Sanctuary” Where Miracles Wait for an Invitation
In the deep mountains of Totsukawa Village, Nara, sits Tamaki Shrine. Located near the summit of Mt. Tamaki at an altitude of 1,076 meters, this ancient, sacred site is part of the UNESCO World Heritage “Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range.”
It is often said that “You can only visit if you are called.” Even when people plan a trip together, it’s a place where mysterious things happen—someone suddenly becomes unable to go, as if the mountain itself is choosing its guests.
The True Nature of “Being Called”
This was my fourth visit. While it is an awe-inspiring, sacred place, I personally feel a sense of “closeness” to it. I once saw someone hesitantly crossing the first torii gate, whispering, “Am I okay? Does this mean I was allowed to come?” as if waiting for a “pass or fail” judgment from the gods.
But I believe the gods are waiting for a much lighter, more joyful connection. On my first visit, I didn’t even know how famous it was—I just followed a friend. Because of that, I never felt the need to keep a fearful distance. My friend, who joined me this time, said, “I used to feel heavy-hearted about the journey, but since coming with Megumi, Tamaki-san feels so much closer to me.”
My Order to the Universe: “Show Me Something Miraculous”
Every time I visit, something mysterious happens. Perhaps it’s because the night before, I always ask: “Please show me something miraculous tomorrow.”
I love natural spring water. I’ll never forget the first time I brewed coffee with it—the organic beans’ flavor was elevated to a whole new level.
This time, I planned to visit “Ryujinsui” (Dragon God Water) after my prayer. However, I was worried the spring might be dry due to the recent lack of rain. While at the shrine, I met an artist, Hideo Hara, who creates incredible art from vines and stones. (Link: https://ki-art.net/)
Among his powerful works, I found a wand made of cherry wood! It was exactly what I had been looking for—a pointer for my upcoming Tarot videos on YouTube.
A Gift from the “Nekomata Waterfall”
As we chatted, another woman mentioned that Ryujinsui was indeed dry. Mr. Hara immediately suggested, “Then you should go to Nekomata Waterfall. It’s only 10 minutes away, and the water is drinkable!”
Thanks to this timely information, we avoided a fruitless 30-minute drive into the dark mountains. At the waterfall, we ran into that same woman again. It felt like a perfectly orchestrated gift.
Signs of Welcome: A Solar Halo and the First Hawk
There were more signs. During our prayer, a solar halo (a circular rainbow around the sun) appeared. I took it as a definite sign of welcome! Later, while having tea, I saw a hawk soaring through the sky. It was my first time seeing one there.
Because I started my day by asking to see “something miraculous,” I was able to catch these small, beautiful signs. I think the gods might have a better sense of hospitality than we imagine!
The Gods Wait with “Total Affirmation”
The phrase “You can’t go unless you’re called” is famous. But I don’t think the gods are ever turning people away.
If you feel fearful or think, “I’m not ready yet,” it might just be a sign that your self-esteem is taking a little rest. Our own inner blocks—the fear of not being “good enough”—unconsciously create the reality of “not being able to go.”
The gods are always waiting with open arms.
Feel free to be closer to the divine. Say, “Show me something wonderful today!” with a light heart. When you trust yourself and take that step, the gifts—a hawk in the sky, a halo in the clouds, or a tip about a secret waterfall—will pour down upon you.
The universe and the divine are always waiting for us with Total Affirmation. If you are hesitating, give yourself permission first: “It’s okay to go. It’s okay to enjoy it.”
Then, the miraculous, warm gifts will begin to reach you, too.
Have you noticed any “signs from the universe” lately? Please let me know in the comments!
P.S. Look forward to my upcoming Tarot video featuring my new cherry wood wand!
